Music is more than sound — it is a universal language that transcends borders and beliefs, uniting us through the shared essence of our humanity.
Griffiths + Associates is proud to continue its tradition as a sponsor of the Malta Spring Festival, a beautiful annual celebration of classical and contemporary music, founded by artistic director Karl Fiorini.
The theme for the 19th edition, A Radiant Future, reflects global concerns about humanity’s destiny and the challenges facing the rising generation. Inspired by the powerful painting The Apotheosis of War by Vasily Vereshchagin, the festival invites us to think, feel, and act with purpose.
True to its mission, the Malta Spring Festival seeks to challenge, inspire, and elevate audiences, with a special emphasis on youth, innovation, and education. The 2025 programme comprises five carefully curated concerts, all with a fantastic lineup of musicians.
Festival Highlights:
- Opening Concert | 22 April, 20:00 | St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral, Valletta
The Quíron Quartet will perform Shostakovich’s String Quartets No. 8 and No. 15, exploring themes of suffering and mortality through their emotionally charged compositions.
- Contemporary Dance with Live Music: Fragments in Flux | 23 April, 20:00 | Teatru Manoel, Valletta
Choreographer Dorian Mallia, alongside the Moveo Dance Company, will interpret works by Berio and Boulez, blending avant-garde music with dynamic choreography to explore the relationship between sound and movement.
- Sandro Zerafa Quartet | 24 April, 20:00 | Teatru Manoel, Valletta
Jazz guitarist Sandro Zerafa presents his quartet, showcasing a range of musical influences in a concert celebrating his sixth album.
- Rising Stars Spotlight – Chico Zerafa
A special recital highlighting emerging pianist Chico Zerafa features works by Ravel, Beethoven, Fauré, and Scriabin. Part of the festival’s Rising Stars initiative, this platform supports young Maltese artists in developing international musical careers.
- A Landmark Finale – Closing Concert | 26 April, 20:00 | Teatru Manoel, Valletta
The Malta Spring Festival Academy Orchestra, conducted by Brian Schembri, will perform a varied program featuring soloist Dmitry Sitkovetsky. The concert includes works by Fiorini, Shostakovich, Pärt, and Tchaikovsky.
New This Year: The International Strings Academy
An exciting addition to the 19th edition is the launch of the International Strings Academy, offering intensive training and masterclasses for young string musicians. With masterclasses led by distinguished artists including Sitkovetsky and Charles Sewart (Purcell School, UK), the academy reflects the festival’s long-term commitment to nurturing future musical excellence.
We hope to see you there!
Let’s enjoy the arts, take a moment to reflect — and keep moving toward a radiant future.
